Hi all, new to this site but would like to find out more about running pug 406 on veg oil. I see in previous discussion that there are some issues with 406 HDi common rail. I have a 406 2.1TD - which is not a common rail. Has anyone any experience in running such an engine on svo, wvo or even bio?
I work with these engines and have seen the effects of people running veg oil through them.
Thankfully your older XUD engine is far more forgiving about fuel quality. You should have no major problems if you are careful as the injectors and high pressure pump will be fine provided that no serious fatty deposits are allowed to accumulate in them.
My advice to you (you will have problems otherwise) is do not store oil for longer than a month, 3 months for bio, as it starts to breakdown.
Do not run veg oil continuously i would recommend 1 FULL tank of normal diesel for every 4 tanks of veg oil, this will help flush through any oil thats has been coating the inside of the pump and injectors etc. and i would recommend changing the fuel filter when you run each tank of normal diesel. I know this might sound a bit excessive but you would be surprised how quickly veg oil can ruin a fuel filter! If you follow this advice you should be able to run veg oil through your engine with no real worries.
But to anyone else reading this do not even consider running a newer HDi on veg oil.
Although the manufacturers do give advice for revised servicing if running biodiesel.
