Any welders out there? Is aluminium weaker after being welded?
My nudge bar on car was damaged due to someone rolling into it. The nudge bar was attached through middle of bumper bar not underneath car. The smash repairer sent it off & had it welded back together on original brackets. Would this make it weaker than a brand new bar that has never been damaged?
Yes.
Bars are drawn when made and as a result
have a good degree of hardness and springiness.
It is impossible to weld without softening
the aluminium near the weld due to the
high temperatures involved.
This means that if it gets another knock
near the weld it will probably bend out
of shape rather than snap.
