I am looking for a welder that can be used to weld wires together for a sculpture, however, I have noticed that all the tips appear to be "pointy" and, this doesn't seem practical if I'm working with wire that is 22 gauge or thinner. Should I be looking for a different kind of welder? (and, I'm thinking that I really only need a light duty welder for something like this.) Any help would be appreciated!
you want to look into soldering. Welding requires to melt also the metal of your wire. Which mostly means that by the time you managed to melt metal of your wire, the entire wire is melted through.
If you solder you take a metal with a lower melting point and use this to connect wires together. You could look into silver soldering or just use normal electrical solder. Given that a cheap soldering iron is about $10, it is also the financially much more attractive option.
If you already have an oxyacetylene torch you should be able to set it up for silver soldering with a small enough tip - though a propane torch is plenty for silver soldering.
And for wire that thin you could just wrap or twist the wires around each other. You could even use a glue gun...
