i want to take a welding class but i have absolutely zero experience?
is it hard to learn i know absolutely nothing about it but i feel it would be something fun to learn... i guess that i just want to know if its hard to learn about all the gasses and metals. the type of welding we would do is oxyacetylene welding, brass brazing, flame cutting, and electric arc processes, and an introduction to both Tig and Mig welding. Am i getting in over my head?
Is it an introductory level class? Sounds like it.
I wouldn't be worried. The stereotype about welders is we tend to be as intelligent as a bag of rocks, and have a third grade education.
The trick to welding is having steady hands, a small amount of technical knowledge, and lots of practice. That's really all there is to it.
The most important thing to know, when you get started, is to pay attention to the the safety information they go over in class. The rest you can learn as you go. Most of the safety rules are pretty stupid...e.g. "do not weld on acetylene cylinders. do not arc weld while standing in water, do not weld without goggles or a mask. do not pick up practice plates without gloves"....stuff like that.
MIG welding is fairly easy. It's easier than OAW. The difficulty comes in knowing how to set the MIG welder correctly. Once you can set the welder correctly, you basically just pull the trigger and go.
