Needle conduction test?
I had a emg and needle coduction test for possiable neuropthy. I passed the electric one but failed the needle when inserted into my leg I felt nothing. I did feel everything in my feet which is odd to me. He diagnoised me with neuropthy. He was not convinced I had it until I felt nothing in my legs. Could this be something else I just feel its weird. I have had these tests before for ulnar nerve and carpal tunnel and I know how much that needle one hurts I am upset cause I think its something more and he just does not know? Any help would be great!!!
You are correct about the EMG having two parts but I think you may be mistaken about the needle part. The electrical part tests the speed at which an impulse travels down the nerve. Since you have passed that test it means that there is nothing stopping the progression of the impulse. That is a good thing. The needle part is not to test whether you feel the pinprick but there is a fine filament wire inside the needle. This wire picks up the electrical activity within the muscle. The doctor asked you to do certain things when the needle was in. That is to check to see if there is any abnormal activity when the muscle is at rest. Then they most likely asked you to do something and that would tell what the muscle was doing when under a slight load. The last part is to see what the muscle does when you are asked to fully contract it. The test will print out these results but the doctor is also listening to the noise that the muscle puts out. There are certain sounds that they are listening for to tell them what is going on. A neuropathy in the legs means that you have some type of process that is effecting the way the muscle is getting its muscle. The referring physician will be getting a report soon and will be able to tell you what was found at that time. Without having that report available to you or having been there it is impossible to know what those results might be. Good luck.
