WWII German Helmet Markings Help?
I'm trying to identify what a small badge on a WWII German helmet means. It is a small shield with 3 diagonal stripes, black, white then red.

The Black/White/Red shield represents the German Reich or imperial Colors. During the Weimar period the shield was black and gold. The armed forces (Wehrmacht) is the "shield" or protector of the German reich. The eagle and swastika "hoheitsabzeichnen" shield represents the melding of the Armed forces and National Socialism (Nazi).
Incidentally, both decals in the pictures are awful reproductions.
