what are the hazard and risks for drilling a hole in mild steel bar and how would you prevent these ocurring?
this is my engineering work and i cant seem to find an answer its really important and i have no idea about drilling a hole in mild steel bar never learnt or done it and its due in tommorow!!!
Because of the curvature, it is very easy for the drill bit to slip off the side of the pipe and if you have a hand close by (I've done it myself) the flutes or the point of the drill bit end up shredding your hand or poking a hole thru your finger. The drill very quickly does damage to skin. Plus the infection factor with rust, tetanus, and bacteria.
You should always take a metal punch a mark a starter hole point to help hold the drill bit in place from sliding off
