broken bolt removal from 61 VW Beetle front suspension?
Hi, I have a bolt which has snapped off inside the chassis of an early VW Beetle. It's an M8 size and the thread has snapped off inside the chassis about an inch inside the hole. I can't get a Mig welder in there, so I tried a bolt extractor which also snapped off.
Now I wish to drill it out progressively with larger drills, but the bolt extractor is high tensile and is near impossible to drill. It is embedded into the end of the snapped bolt, and I can't drill it until I get rid of the high tensile material.
For those who know VW's, it the lower bolt, drivers side which holds the front suspension beam on. No rear access.

I snapped an exhaust stud on a V8 once, then I snapped the E-Z out. Thought that I was screwed. Then I remembered that E-Z outs are made of high carbon steel. I was able to burn just the E-Z out out with a real torch (not a bernz-o-matic ). Use a cutting torch and hit the E-Z out with the oxy just as it turns red. Be careful of your eyes because it kind pops real hard when the carbon explodes. Just like rust will start popping when you hit it with a torch.
