do woodlands have a self-ignite capacity?
I once heard that woodlands would catch fire so that it of renews itself... something like that.
I would like to know if this is true, how often it happens, etc.

Spontaneous combustion? Not likely, decomposition generates heat and methane but the same moist condition that support decomposition makes the likelihood of fire lower. However on Earth there is another phenomena called lightning--more forest fires are caused by lightning strikes than by human carelessness. And yes fire clears our old dead matter, clears land for need seedlings and promotes new growth, some tree species actually need the intense heat of a fire to sprout new seeds.
