Sanitary Ends

I have such a heavy flow, that at night i have to make my own nappy with sanitary towels. Help!?
I am 17 and have had my period since I was 13. It is still really irregular (sometimes over 1 month and sometimes only 3 weeks) and really heavy. At nights it is so heavy that i actually (really embarrassing!) have to line my knickers completely with night-time and extra long sanitary towels so I end up making this nappy so no part of my pants are uncovered. If I don't do this I leak! I only have to do this for the first few days but its getting quite expensive! And in the mornings I am scared about getting up in case I've leaked. Silly I know!
Please can someone give me advice! Should i go on the pill to lighten the flow???

BTW this is affecting my lifestyle as during my period i get scared to lie down or sit down for too long in case i leak.
I used tampons once but didnt do it right so it hurt when i walked. AAA!

I too am 'blessed' with a heavy flow - everyone is different, and having heavier periods than some of your friends doesn't always translate into a problem or a condition - but as you said, this issue is interfering with your lifestyle. that alone is reason enough to have a little chat with your doctor.
the pill can lighten your flow significantly. everyone will react to birth control pills differently - some have an awful time, but others don't have many, if any, side effects at all. that's definitely something that your doctor could advise you on.
in the mean time - i'd give tampons another try. i think you'll be quite amazed at how comfortable they are when you insert them properly, and you will feel a lot more protected/comfortable. stay away from asprin (a.s.a.) for pain, as it's a blood thinner and will make your flow even heavier.
give your dr. a ring! nothing to be embarrassed about!
