Can trying to focus manually in auto focus mode damage a camera?
I think i may have nudged the focus ring on my camera when the camera was turned off.
Not necessarially. A lot of newer lenses are AF/M and M not strictly AF or M, meaning that you can manually tweek focus even if it's on AF mode. If the ring freely rotated its not a big deal. On older camera/lens combos the lens mechanism was physically locked to the camera with a mechanical focus screw, most times now that's not the case - so moving the focus ring even in AF mode is harmless. If you have one of those older lenses, you'd know, the ring wouldn't move when you touched it and would require a fair amount of force to make it move.
