shower mixer not mixing?
I have just moved into a new house and am reluctant to bother the landlords just yet about this issue as I am conscious of being seen as a whining tennant. We have a combined bath/shower mixer and a combi boiler which feeds hot water into a tank in the master bedroom. When I use the bath, I get pretty good pressure and a balance of hot and cold water. But, when I put my hand under the tap it is clear the water is not really mixing.
However, the problem really arises when I try to have a shower (which I prefer with near fanaticism): with both taps on only cold water comes through whilst with only the hot tap on, the water is scalding and the pressure pitiful. I have tried turning the boiler temp down but that doesn't solve it (nor the pressure problem). I have managed to have a few showers by having the cold tap on slightly, but again the pressure is pathetic.
Has anyone encountered something similar - can this be fixed easily or am I just going to have to complain?
If the hot water's not got enough pressure, there's not much that you or your landlord can do about it. Ideally you want an electric shower, but that would negate all the environmental advantages of having a combi boiler.
