How to get the watts generated from a fluid mass flow rate?
For an assignment question, I am given a mass flow rate of 10 m3/s. The question states that a quarter of this flow is directed to an energy station and to find the amount of MW generated. Any ideas?
The generated power depends on the energy content of the fuel used in the powerplant.
The energy content of a standard cubic foot of natural gas is 1.1x10^6 J
1 cu ft = 0.028 cu m
Power: P = (10/4)(1.1x10^6)/0.028 = 98.2x10^6 W = 98.2 MW
