Is it necessary to have a presser foot on my sewing machine?
I've been trying to use my sister's sewing machine on a project for school and it keeps getting jammed up. I only just noticed that it doesn't have a presser foot on it. Could this be why it's getting jammed up so much?
Absolutely. You need the presser foot to hold the fabric down so the feed dogs (the tracks in the needle plate, under the presser foot) can move the fabric.
Depending on the brand of sewing machine you are using, you may be able to find a generic presser foot at a fabric store that sells sewing machine accessories or at a sewing machine dealer.
Better yet, ask your sister where the heck the foot is. It should be left on the machine.
