Shunt reactors?
What is the difference to put a shunt reactor at the begining or at the end of a transmission line?
This is for Ferranti Effect. Generally the receiving end voltage should be less than sending end voltage. But at no load condition or when the load is very small the receiving end voltage is higher than the sending end voltage the reason is the presence of capacitace between line and earth. this capacitance value is constant. The line voltage also constant aonly the current is changing as depends on load. so at no load current is small but capacitance is parallel with the line, and so current through capacitance is same it is not depend on load.this capacitace voltage has major role at no load and thats why the reciving end voltage is higher than sending end voltage. To overcome this we are using Shunt reactor, as it is an inductor and properties opposite to capacitanc(i.e. leading and lagging ) it comensates the capacitance effect.
