help with laptop screen?
hi
when i turn my freevents philips x57 laptop i just get a white screen then it dims darker and i cant see anything.
brightness controls on the keyboard work.
when i connect the laptop to my plasma tv i dont get a white screen and it comes on my plasma.
on the plasma though its crazy. theres different colour lines flashing everywhere and individual letters on the text change different colours like a nightclub. its like 8 bit graphics disco game. doesnt even boot into windows, just see the statup and loading screen.
so if the graphics are acting all crazy on my external display (plasma), does that say that the gpu/motherboard is faulty?
or is it the inverter, lcd cable or my laptop screen is faulty?

It's probably none of the above.
Here's how the troubleshooting process works for what you're describing (contrast and color issues that appear during early POST and boot-up screens):
Let's say something weird is happening on the laptop screen (and it can be whatever...lines, bars, contrast issues, etc), but something obviously not related to Windows. The first thing we do is attach the laptop to a different monitor (just like you did w/ your plasma).
We connect a different monitor to determine if the issue is with the LCD or w/ the Video card. If the issues only appears on the laptop display, but not an external display, then the issue is with laptop LCD components. If the issue (or other issues) transfer to the external monitor, then the issue is with the Video Card.
Your video card is most likely damaged, and will need to be replaced, based on the facts you provided above. Hopefully, your warranty is still in effect.
A few portables have removable video cards, and if yours is among them, then this will be just a video card replacement. If your laptop has the more common onboard video controller, then the motherboard will have to replaced.
Your tests proved the video card is bad, and I'm just providing analysis =)
The possible variables involved due to the Plasma display make me want you to do this same test on an ordinary LCD monitor...just to be certain!.
