Injection molding permits molding very near to net shape thus reducing the amount of secondary work. Injection molding also makes available a significant number of plastics and plastic alloys from which to produce parts.
The drawback is that the tooling necessary can be rather expensive to make, necessary but expensive. This is where your cost/benefit analysis comes in. The more parts you make, the less impact the cost of the tooling has. For example, a tool that cost $5000. If you make two parts then the relative cost is $2500 each. But if you make 5000 parts, then each is only $1.
Simply analyze all your costs involved and see if the "per piece" unit price is worth the expense.
