Question on kinetic energey?
A bullet has a mass of 0.025 kg and leaves the barrel of a gun at 300 m/s. A jet air liner has a mass of 150 000 kg and also travels at 300 m/s.
a) calculate their kinetic energies
b) Explain why their kinetic energies are different even though they are travelling at the same speed.
K.E. = 1/2 mv²
a)
for bullet: m = 0.025, v = 300 solve for K.E. (bullet)
for plane: m = 150,000, v = 300 solve for K.E. (plane)
b)
K.E. from above formula is a function of not only v, but also of m
so even though v's are the same the K.E. won't be if the m's aren't.
