What does MOV Command do in Assembley language when using general purpose registers. Actually what does it do anyway and what does each part of the command do. I've seen, MOV r3, #3 .I can't seem to find any reference to it. I'm guessing it's move but move to where.
It depends on the processor architecture (and you haven't said what processor you are talking about! They're all different!) but usually, it takes the form
MOV destination register, source register
which moves something (actually, copies it) from the source register to the destination register. In some assembly languages, the command takes the form
MOV source register, destination register
which looks the same but does it the other way around!
In (at least) ARM assembly language, # means "immediate", i.e. the number to move is not already in a register but part of the instruction; so "MOV R3, #3" would place the number 3 in R3.
