I have a 03 Dodge Ram 2500 with a Diesel and 6 speed. When I start the truck the clutch pedal is very soft. I am unable to get the truck into gear without pumping the clutch 20-30 times, then I can shift into gear no problems. I checked the fluid reservoir and it was still pretty full, I topped it off two days ago and it hasn't gone down since then.
What is wrong, and how much am I looking at to have it repaired at my friendly neighboorhood mechanic?
It sounds like you have air in the hydraulic clutch system.If the fluid is not leaking out of the reservoir you can probably get away with just bleeding the system.You shouldn't be looking at to much money to bleed the air out,just ask who ever is going to do the work to just try and bleed the system first and see if that solves the problem.The only other things that go wrong are leaking slave cylinders,leaking lines,or a bad clutch master cylinder,but then you would be losing brake fluid.Well this should give you some help.
