A ramjet engine operates at m=1.5 at an altitude of 6500m . The diameter of the inlet diffuser at the entry is 50 cm and the stagnation temp at the nozzle entry is 1600 k. Calorific value of the fuel used is 40mj/kg . The properties of combustion gases are same as those of air . The velocity of air at diffuses exit is negligible . Calculate the efficiency of the ideal cycle ,flight speed ,airflow rate ,diffuser pressure ratio ,fuel air ratio ,nozzle jet mach no and specific thrust
I was going to ask "Please specify the exhaust nozzle dimensions (throat and exit area, or throat and exit pressure)." But it appears that I can assume that the exit pressure is the same as free stream (which is consistent with an ideal ramjet cycle).
Are these valid assumptions for your problem? Or do you want to specify some nozzle dimensions?
If these are valid assumptions, then you can make use of two more assumptions to solve the problem:
- The velocity values at the inlet and nozzle throats are based upon Mach 1 at the calculated gas state conditions.
- And, the stagnation temperature through the inlet is constant.
This problem can be solved easily by using a Mollier diagram for dry air. You can explicitly calculate the static pressure and temperature of the air and combustion products through the engine. Keep in mind that the nozzle throat stagnation pressure is based upon the inlet diffuser stagnation pressure, modified by the heat addition during the combustion process.
