Which way do you turn the valve on home AC service ports to close off (save) the gas in the unit's compressor?
I need to dissconnect the lines to and from the compressor unit...does turning the valves cw or ccw close the system...?
This is illegal for anyone to do that is not certified.
We do what is normally called pump down.
We close the liquid line start the unit up and pump all possible refrigerant into the outside condenser.
Then close the suction side to hold all the refrigerant.
Just closing the service valves will leave refrigerant in the lines and coil and make it impossible to disconnect without relieving refrigerant to the atmosphere which is illegal.
When re piping is complete the lines and coil need to be evacuated of any air and leak tested before reopening the service valves.
This is a quick job for an experienced technician and will be worth the cost.
