Gallon Stainless 2

How do I remove roofing cement, asphalt, and gasoline from inside my washing machine?
The geniuses that I married or gave birth to attempted to launder their clothes after installing our new driveway. All I know is that the clothes were soaked in water in the machine before being washed 1/2 a box of Tide. Thankfully I came home just before they put them in the dryer, so I made them toss everything in the trash once the spin cycle was complete.
I was able to remove a thick ring of sticky stuff by liberally applying a kitchen grease cutter and a lot of elbow work. Well, I applied, they elbowed.
What can I use to soak in the washing machine remove the junk that is between the outside of the stainless steel tub and the plastic tub that it sits in? I tried a gallon of vinegar and a full load of hot water. I have zero desire to make them call Whirlpool and find out how to take the thing apart so the two tubs can be cleaned. As much as I would like that, I don't trust them with the washing machine anymore! Thank you!

Paint thinner like "lacquer thinner" or Mineral spirits is recommended to clean up tar. It's not going to mix with water however. If you have to add water your going to have to mix it really hard to keep it in suspension.
I use Vegetable oil to get the tar off my hands. Will not work as good as a paint thinner. Turpentine will work too.
What a mess! Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS. Not a good idea to let lacquer thinner or anything like that into the sewer. If you have a septic tank it could stop working! If you are on the city sewer they are not going to like you! Not good for the environment! Please don't put such a thing in the sewer.
