What would happen to the price of energy if we socialized it? electricity, fuel, and gas?

so do we trust politicians who we vote for or corporations who we know will try to ripp us off

It would or should come down because it would not finance the lazy shareholders who are living off our backs.
Another way to make it fairer would be to cost all energy as work, THUS the work each unit of ANY TYPE of energy could do for the price paid would then be easier to equate with in the everyday world, common sense would then perhaps not allow gas to be burned in power stations to generate power... as this IS WASTEFUL and a DAFT way to use up a scarce resource because the energy losses in transition are woefully excess... which is the usuall case in the UK AT PRESENT again for the benefit of the greedy.
Be aware that ALL Energy; OIL, GAS, COAL,ELECTRICITY ETC can be defined USING THE SAME SI UNIT in this case the Joule.
