Elk Welding

Question about “welded tuff” at Elk Ridge lookout?
The large block of “welded tuff” at Elk Ridge lookout was older material, but new rock of this type was locally deposited in the 1980 eruption. What kind of material makes up this rock?
My understanding is that welded tuff is made up of pyroclastics - ash, pumice, lapilli etc.... the heat from the eruption is so intense that it 'welds' the products all together, forming the slabs of 'welded tuff' that you're referring to.
