why do people with less than 6 diopters buy prescription glass or plastic glasses instead of pinhole glassesx?
i mean come on, they're dirt cheap compared prescriptions.
By stopping any off-axis light rays instead of refracting them, the pinhole glasses subtantially reduce the amount of light that gets through to the eye. Not so bad in bright sunlight, but real trouble in a dim room or at night.
They also cut off any peripheral vision. You can rotate your eye and look through a pinhole on the edge of the glasses, but that is not peripheral vision. If your eye is aimed straight ahead, you won't see much through anything except the pinholes in front of the eye.
Try a pair or poke a hole in a piece of cardboard.
