you are given 3 solutions of hydrochloric acid. How do u determine the most and least concentrated acids?
u are provided with :
beaker
measureing cylinder
conical flask
test tube
boiling tube
common bench reagents
thermometer
delivery tube
test tube rack
glass rod
spatula
you have to design an experiment.thanks!!!!!
There are different ways, but the easiest might be to measure 3 equal amounts of an alkaline reagent that would react with the acid. The reaction will generate heat. The most concentrated acid will produce the fastest rise in temperature. You will have to estimate about how long it will take for the reaction to come close to ending. Depending on how much material you are working with, 15 to 30 seconds may be a good guess. Record the initial temperatures of the 3 acids. Then one at a time, put the thermometer and reagent in the container and record the temperature and length of time when the reaction is over or almost over. Clean everything off then do it again with the other two acid solutions, using the same length of time. The concentrations will go along with the rise in temperature. Stir the mixtures in as equal a way as possible.
