Does anyone know what gauge floor pans are on early model Mustangs?
Want to change out my floor pans on a
'66 Mustang, Need to know what type of welder would be suitable for this application. Considering a flux wire welder, or is the sheet metal to thin for this type of welder? I realy don't want to mess around with gas welders, need a practical/compact welder to do the job. Any advice on this topic?
you need a MiG welder for this, stick welding will burn right through those,i think their 18 gage metal, but you never know when ordering replacements,i use a mig on all panels any way ,it does a lot better because it wont burn through,if you ever get a hole started burning through it gets harder to patch that area up,and over-lap them at least 1/2 inch this makes them a lot stronger,i did one last year,it was a night mare, because it was buckled in the middle from not having any support,it took some time to get it strait again, take your time with it though, and don't try and run one solid weld, spot weld it at first, this will prevent it from drawing up on you, good luck on it.,,PS i went last year and bought a factory spot welder, and i still use my mig welder more than i use it,basically a spot welder is use less putting in panels, mig it in and it will be stronger.
