How far do you have to live from a cell tower to get service?
My town is getting a MUCH needed cell phone tower. It's now being built, and I live very close to it, like a block away. People have said, that if you live close to the tower, you still won't get service. Is this true? How far do you have to live to get service?
Depends on the service and the signal strength/power, frequency of that tower and the type of antenna on the tower. But at a block you won't have a problem at all, provided that the phone service provider you use (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, etc) actually uses that tower. Carriers use different towers and have different coverage. The range is usually measured in a few miles or more in the suburbs. In the city, towers are closer together to handle the call volume.
