What is an experiment to see if carbon dioxide is needed for plants to grow and if light is needed for plants to photosynthesis?
4 Plants, A, B, C, D
A = Control plant, exposed to both carbon dioxide and light.
B = Plant exposed to carbon dioxide but not light.
C = Plant exposed to light but not carbon dioxide.
D = Plant exposed to neither.
Compare their growths.
B, C and D should die because light is necessary for the light reaction in photosynthesis and CO2 is necessary for the dark reaction. Without both reactions the plant cannot produce carbohydrates and will die.
The only logical conclusion from the experiment will be that both light and CO2 are necessary for plant life.
