Ballroom: I'm Having a Problem with the Jive Basic?
I have experience with rumba and chacha, and I'm having some problem learning bronze-level jive.
The basic is a left chasse, right chasse, rockstep. On the chasses I'm having two problems:
1) My feet pound into the floor, making a loud noise and my feet hurt after a few minutes.
2) It looks like I'm jumping, and it really isn't fluid at all.
I can solve these problems by stepping smaller, but then I can't move very much. I must be doing some fundemental wrong.
Has anyone seen/had this problem who can give advice to me on how to practice to fix it?
Thanks
Try this:
When you do your chasse to the left keep your right hip higher, when you put your weight on your left foot for the last step left, swing your hips to the left which will allow you to make that a slightly larger step. But the first step will be smaller. When you do the chasse to the right, keep your left hip higher, and again when you put your weight on your last right step, swing your hips to the right. Use normal latin hip movement on the rock step. When you step always keep your foot amost flat, your toes can be slightly lower than your heel. Practice your steps slowly, then when you are comfortable with the movements, try to the music, if you go back to old habits, then do them slowly again, repeat until you can dance to the music.
