New compact disc error handling technique?
Muting, attenuation, holding and averaging (linear interpolation) are common error hiding practices. Compact disc decoding system sets a flag for every byte in error. Since single channel samples are two bytes wide there can be corruption of both of them or only of one of them. I'm proposing to take advantage of this last circumstance, but I find difficulties to design and evaluate the method. Thanks in advance for your great help.
Compact Disc encoding is not simple parity - it uses Reed-Solomon block coding capable of error correction.
Do a Google on Reed-Solomon codes to understand this.
